Description: "Every year refugees from over 70 different countries arrive in Britain. Forced to leave their own countries, refugees often arrive in Britain traumatised and disorientated. Education is often the only route to self sufficiency and a new life.

• The background to current refugee law in Britain and refugees' rights and needs

• Good educational practice: ESL provision, mother tongue resources and psychological support and home school liaison

• Information about languages, education and the political situation in take main countries of origin

• A comprehensive and up to date guide to teaching resources and contact organisations

Jill Rutter is Education Officer at the Refugee Council and also works at the Refugee Education Initiative, London Institute of Education. She is co-author of Refugee Education : mapping the field, also published by Trentham. "
