Refugees: a Global Issue with implications for Social Work Education and Practice in the 21st Century
Description: "This paper sketches in recent changes in the UK where the status and treatment of refugees and asylum seekers are being debated; and indicates the limited extent of
research and literature about developing social work services and practice in relation to refugees and asylum seekers. The findings from a small scale study carried out in London and South East England into the development of (statutory and voluntary) responses by social service agencies, are summarised. Finally, while the number of social professionals* choosing (or being drawn in) to work with refugees, including unaccompanied minors, is currently small, a new policy of dispersal of refugees suggests that this area of work enquires more attention. The implications for the initial training or continuing professional development of Social professionals working with refugees are considered."
