IAA Gender Guidelines

Description: "The Immigration Appealate Authority's Asylum Gender Guidelines address difficulties which refugees may face because of their gender, and other related issues. These include ensuring that the experiences of women in their country of origin are fully considered as part of their asylum claims. For example, they may be victims of forced prostitution or have been persecuted for holding feminist opinions. The Guidelines will help to ensure the asylum determination process is equally accessible to both women and men. They will raise awareness of evidential problems. These incude the barriers faced by women in giving evidence of sexual abuse. The Guidelines demonstrate how such problems may be overcome. It is important to note that the Guidelines apply to both male and female asylum seekers."
