The Impact of the September 11 Attacks on Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrants in the Afghanistan Region and Worldwide

Description: "Twenty years of foreign invasion and civil war, political turmoil, continuing human rights abuses and recent drought had already displaced more than five million of Afghanistan’s 27 million people before the September 11 attacks on the United States. Some four million refugees had been displaced to neighboring countries and across the world, while a further one million people had been internally displaced within Afghanistan. Severe drought had brought the country to the verge of famine and existing Taliban restrictions on relief agencies were severely hampering the delivery of assistance and civilian access to basic services."
