Think Child: The councillor’s guide to Quality Protects

Description: "The Quality Protects programme was launched in September 1998. Its aim is
to ensure that the most vulnerable children in our country get the best that society can offer: the care, safety and security that all children deserve. We can achieve this aim through high quality, well-managed and effective children’s services.

In particular, we wish to improve the life chances of children looked after by local authorities.

Unfortunately, in the past, some children taken into care were harmed rather than helped and some children were abused.

Nor were their life chances generally enhanced by the care system. Too many ended up long-term unemployed, sleeping rough or in prison. We are determined that Quality Protects will change the system.

We want to see all children gain maximum life chances.

When thinking of standards for the children in your authority’s care, you need to be asking yourself:

What if this was my child?

Would it be good enough for them?

Would this be good enough for me?
